A Message from NAMI Illinois about COVID-19
Today, as our state and our nation struggle to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, NAMI Illinois recognizes that the psychological impact of this situation will leave no American untouched, regardless of their level of risk for contracting the virus. As Americans take the necessary steps to protect their physical health – by practicing social distancing, monitoring for potential symptoms that have not yet occurred, and increasing isolation – mental health can be negatively impacted, especially for those whose mental health may already be tenuous. Now, more than ever, NAMI Illinois stands with you as a partner, available and dedicated to our clientele, and knowing that during any crisis, we are stronger together.
We know that each chapter is making decisions to support the health and best interests of their communities, and we applaud the efforts of every member of the NAMI family to care for and connect with those who need us during these stressful times. As in-person contact necessarily decreases, the importance of phone calls, personal emails, text check-ins, and electronic gatherings becomes more important than ever before.
In the days and weeks ahead, we will continue to provide tips, resources, and shared learning about the many ways we can support the psychological, emotional, and physical well-being of our loved ones and each other. You can help by passing this information along, including following, sharing, and commenting on our Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram feeds.
Our world is changing in rapid, unexpected ways. Our mission remains the same.
