Re-affiliation

NAMI Illinois is in the process of implementing NAMI’s Standards of Excellence and re-affiliation program throughout the state.  The program was developed through collaboration of affiliates, state organizations, NAMI (National) and outside consultants. This process will increase NAMI’s ability to deliver high quality education, support and advocacy programs more efficiently; create consistency and unity among NAMI organizations throughout the country; and insure NAMI organizations are compliant with state and federals laws. Re-affiliation under NAMI Standards of Excellence requires that affiliates:

  • have an active Board of Directors
  • are govern by bylaws and operating policies that reflect state and federal laws
  • adhere to industry standards
  • be adequately insured to protect members and volunteers against liability
  • have a financial review by a Certified Public Account every three years
  • offer NAMI signature education and support programs
  • conduct themselves in a manner consistent with NAMI principles and practices

In Illinois, NAMI Cook County North Suburban has achieved re-affiliation and NAMI Tri-County Illinois has received the endorsement of NAMI Illinois Board of Directors and is awaiting approval from the NAMI National Board of Directors. Several other affiliates throughout the state have made progress on the path to re-affiliation. We are excited for affiliates throughout the state to continue to move through the re-affiliation process so that we can provide NAMI’s high-quality and important programs and services to all those affected by mental illness in Illinois.
